The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) opposes handing over PEG access TV channels to non-access entities, and issued a Public Policy Update in March, 1999. ACM's position corresponds to the one taken by Public Access of Indianapolis against Fox Sports Midwest using the former public access TV channel to help launch itself in Indianapolis. |

Public Access of Indianapolis presents "Africa: Through the Lens" Part of the Indianapolis' Africa Celebration '98. Release Date: 10/25/98 Press release copy -- A Video examining how Africa is seen through the US media, produced by Public Access of Indianapolis, Inc, will be shown Wednesday, October 28, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. The viewing which is free and open to the public will be held at the Indianapolis Peace and Justice Center Central Avenue United Methodist Church 520 East 12th Street This event is supported by Africa Celebration 98 and the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

Why Public Access Television? The New Town Square Despite all the hype about the internet, the primary means of disseminating information, ideas and entertainment -- mass communications -- is the television. People are much more likely to stand around the proverbial water cooler and discuss last night's episode of "Friends" or the shocking "Dateline" segment rather than the thoughtful, funny, or controversial editorial in the morning's newspaper or the long-running debate in an internet newsgroup. |
