ACM Public Policy Update on Corporate Use of Access TV Channels Print E-mail

The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) opposes handing over PEG access TV channels to non-access entities, and issued a Public Policy Update in March, 1999.  ACM's position corresponds to the one taken by Public Access of Indianapolis against Fox Sports Midwest using the former public access TV channel to help launch itself in Indianapolis.

Why Public Access Television?
The New Town Square

Despite all the hype about the internet, the primary means of disseminating  information, ideas and entertainment -- mass communications -- is the television.  People are much more likely to stand around the proverbial water cooler and discuss last night's episode of   "Friends" or the shocking "Dateline" segment rather than the thoughtful, funny, or controversial editorial in the morning's newspaper or the long-running debate in an internet newsgroup.
