Indiana House Committee Approves Telecom Bill Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 19 January 2006
The Indiana House Committee on Technology, Research and Development passed House Bill (HB) 1279 on telecommunications reform, 8-3 on January 18, 2005 after three hours of testimony.  HB 1279 is similar to Indiana Senate Bill (SB) 245 that passed the Senate committee hearing on January 10, 2006. Both substantial bills for the telcos, that establish state-wide video franchising and eliminate telephone rate regulation, are being rushed through the short session of the Indiana General Assembly that adjourns on March 14, 2006.  SB 245 also curtails municipal broadband, and SB 23 establishes property tax abatements for communications service providers.
