Juliet Yackel has challenged the death penalty for more than a dozen years. As a law student, Juliet's opposition to state-sanctioned killing motivated her to work with attorneys fighting death sentences in Louisiana. As a lawyer, she seeks to discover and understand the life events which led her clients being suspected of, charged with and convicted of death penalty offenses.

While a deputy to the Public Defender of Indiana, Juliet began her representation of Darnell Williams. That representation continues, as Juliet strives to prevent the improper execution of Darnell Williams. Juliet has represented, as attorney or as mitigation investigator, dozens of people facing the death penalty. Three of those men were Illinois death row inmates who received clemency. Her work with the Northwestern University Law Clinic helped secure a full pardon for Leroy Orange, who was exonerated a released.
