"Remembrance through song, sacred music, recollections and reflections are an important part of Sikh and Jewish traditions. By sharing we break the silence of the spirit as a witness to experiences and seek a path towards healing and hope, and service of mankind with our gifts and opportunities. Both communities have suffered much persecution throughout history and both people have shown incredible resilience, strength and continued renewal after each major assault on their faith, culture and traditions. Their story of faith, fortitude and unimaginable sacrifice is a source of inspiration and strength to all.
Very little is known about the Sikh experience in Indiana and in the West. The events of September 11, 2001 have brought the Sikh American challenge into a new focus in America. The Sikh and Jewish story are an important example of survival, fortitude, courage and inner strength of these two communities. This event is designed to acknowledge the painful experiences in recent history; to celebrate the resilience of Sikhs and Jews using music; and to share of a vegetarian meal. The Sikhs underwent a forced migration in 1947. When their faith was formed in the 15th century, they were immediately persecuted. The purpose of the event is not to dwell on past suffering, but to underscore the importance of tolerance and unity in the face of suffering." Contact: -
